Lose Overweight

Want to get rid of those extra pounds? Well, then all you need to do is simply write down your daily food intake, for it can double your Weight Loss, according to a new study.

The study, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, followed 1,700 Overweight people over six months, and revealed that those who wrote down everything they ate lost an average of 13lb.

“Recording what you eat can really help you with Weight Loss, because a lot of the time, you’re not conscious of your behavior,” Times Online quoted Azmina Govindji, a consultant nutritionist and author of The Hot Body Plan, as saying.

“Some eating habits are situational - for example, having tea and a chocolate biscuit while watching your favorite television program. We do it on autopilot. If you know that you actually have to record every item you eat, it gives a split-second pause for thought. You think, ‘Do I really want to write this down.’

“Through the use of a food journal, we often become aware of patterns that are self-destructive.

“We become more authentically honest with ourselves, and we start asking the question ‘What’s eating me?’ instead of ‘What can I eat?’ ” Govindji said.

Even people who believe that they are resolutely healthy can get a shock when they see everything written down in black and white.

“Once someone spots a pattern, then they can do something to change it,” Govindji said.

The most common patterns she uncovers are in those who eat naughty foods because they are bored, hormonal or depressed.

Over-restriction

Did it occur to you why a lot of weight loss programs record failures? The primary factor responsible for that is the characteristic over-restriction found with most of the weight loss programs. Anyone that chooses such would eventually have to limit the kind of foods eaten down to the amount of calories consumed.

Often times, the body refuses to adapt thus leaving it with no other option than bowing to the strings of needless weight gain. This makes the primary reason for finding the right weight loss program remain that it allows the eating of a good variety of foods and therefore not too restrictive. However, this does not send the signal of eating unnecessary foods like cupcakes, candy bars and milkshakes every day. If one does that, one would never lose weight.

Crash-dieting

The absence of crash dieting is another factor to be looked at when choosing a good weight loss program. Good weight loss programs allow one to shed excess weight safely and healthily over a long period of time. Most of the time, the urge to lose weight immediately is there, but one has to resist it. One might eventually have to quit the weight loss program if resistance to the urge was unsuccessful and then go back to the previous weight again.

Good weight loss programs would not allow one to feel hungry often, unlike the crash diets would do. Rather, one would be allowed to be filled comfortably. One would also be allowed to eat some of their favorites while still losing weight.

It can be concluded from the above discussion that not all weight loss plans are able to deliver what they claim. Two most important features of an effective and healthy weight loss program is the one that is not too restrictive and isn’t based on the idea of instant results. An effective diet plan uses flexible approach and it brings desirable results over a period of time in a healthy manner.

A Diet Plan For The Holidays

The Banana Diet

banana egg diet

The banana diet is 1 of the best and easiest ways to help boost your weight loss efforts. It appears there are many versions of this diet… and I also have a version of this diet. A lot of the other versions of this diet just seem plain silly and not very practical.

Here’s an easy to use version that will give you slow, steady weight loss. This is not an extreme diet like you may think.

You may think that the banana diet consists of eating just bananas all day. Wrong! Obviously that isn’t very practical or smart. There is just 1 main rule to this diet and another general rule…

Rule #1: Eat 1-2 bananas before each meal… minimum of 3 times a day.

Very simple, huh? Not much to think about. If you eat, you’re going to eat 1-2 bananas before your meal. Practical, easy, healthy, and not much to remember.

Before breakfast, eat 2 bananas. Before lunch, eat 2 bananas. Before dinner, eat 1 banana. So you eat 5 total bananas a day.

Rule #2: Eat whatever you want for meals.

This rule is simple… eat whatever you want, just as long as you eat 2 bananas before breakfast, 2 bananas before lunch, and 1 banana before dinner. Obviously eating healthier than normal would help your weight loss efforts even more, but it’s not 100% necessary.

Bonus Rule: You can replace 1 banana with an apple before breakfast and lunch.

As mentioned, you can replace a banana with an apple before breakfast and lunch. This is to help relieve possible boredom. Nothing more.

I honestly don’t know how much weight you will lose on this or any other diets that use bananas, however you should notice a steady weight loss. It won’t be extremely fast, so if that’s what you’re looking for… forget the banana diet.

If you’re SICK and TIRED of getting the same old boring weight loss advice… you know, like “Eat more fruits and vegetables, drink 8 glasses of water, jog, and blah blah blah”, then…

Banana Diet - 5 Tips For Success

The Banana Diet is achieving global success. Could this simple diet be the weight loss system you’re looking for? Achieve success with our five tips.

Breakfast bananas are the heart of the Banana Diet. Basically, that’s the entire diet: eat raw bananas and sip water for breakfast.

1. Forget it’s a “diet”

Essentially with the Banana Diet, you can eat normally for the rest of the day. This is what makes the diet so appealing: no weighing, no counting calories, no special foods.

The Banana Diet has no special requirements, and for people new to this simple weight loss system, it’s a little TOO simple. They want to complicate things.

Just forget that it’s a diet and eat your bananas for breakfast.

2. Eat your bananas and sip water for breakfast

If you’re not used to eating breakfast, the Banana Diet does require an adjustment. However, as with everything on this diet, it’s easy. If you don’t have time to eat breakfast, put your bananas into a bag, and eat them in the car, or when you arrive at work.

Don’t forget to sip room temperature water as you eat your breakfast bananas.

You’ll find that two bananas leave you feeling quite full, and the full feeling lasts until lunch. If you’re used to a snack at mid morning, you’ll find that you’re just not hungry when snack time arrives.

3. Eat normally for lunch and dinner

There are no special requirements for your other meals, just eat as you normally would.

4. Eat dinner before 8PM

There’s no food after 8PM, so if you’re working late, take time to eat before 8PM comes around. You shouldn’t eat anything else until you eat breakfast tomorrow.

5. Go to bed by midnight

You’ll look forward to bedtime on this diet; bananas relax you, and you won’t have any trouble falling to sleep at all.

So there you have five tips for success on the Banana Diet.

KDKA Radio Reporter Tells Weight Loss Story

You may have heard the voice of KDKA Radio’s traffic reporter Kathy Berggren, but because you can’t see her, you probably don’t know that she has lost 100 pounds in the last year.

And she did it completely on her own with no drugs, no surgery and no fad dieting.

“I have more energy, I feel better about myself,” Berggren tells KDKA. “My kids think I’m a happier person all around. I do feel really good.”

Before Berggren’s old jeans were a size 18, but now she wears a size four.

“It’s hard to look at them,” Berggren said of her old jeans. “I mean, I’m excited over it, but I just can’t imagine that was me at one point.”

How to Lose Weight

“How to lose weight,” is a frequent issue psychotherapist Ken Donaldson currently confronts. The “how to lose weight” solution should be easy seeing how there’s almost always a new best selling weight loss or diet book.

However, “Diets don’t work,” Donaldson writes in his brand new Try It NON Diet™, “and yet there’s been a ‘diet’ book on all the Best Seller lists almost every week over the last 15 years. If these ‘diet’ books really worked and effectively taught people how to lose weight then why, according to The National Institutes of Health, is more than 66% of the U.S. population overweight?”

“The real weight loss challenge ,” Donaldson states emphatically, “is that food is something we have to consume every day. And we’re constantly surrounded by a barrage of very effective and highly hypnotic consumer messages to eat more. You can’t lose weight if you keep eating more!”

City rewards healthy choices

The English city of Manchester has come up with a simple formula it hopes will help keep its citizens trim: eat right, get stuff. Exercise, get more stuff.

Manchester is hoping to fight fat with a reward system that works like a retail loyalty card.

But instead of earning credit for opening their wallets, residents will be rewarded for keeping their feet on the treadmill and their fridge stocked with healthy food.

Starting next September, Manchester residents will be able to swipe their rewards cards and earn points every time they buy fruits and vegetables, use a community swimming pool, attend a medical screening or work out with a personal trainer.

How To Manage Kids Allergies And Dogs?

Allergy medications can give relief for kids allergic to dogs , but if you plan to keep your dog, you’ll need to do your best to control dog allergy symptoms in your allergic child without the constant use of medication. Also, allergy medications may not prove effective in homes with multiple dogs.

Allergy shots are options for some kids with dog allergies; discuss this option with your child’s doctor.

Since dog saliva is the most allergenic dog allergen, thus limiting contact between your child and the dog’s saliva is the first step. It is recommended to train the dog not to kiss or lick people (all people, since the dog won’t likely single out your allergic child) and teach your child to do their best to keep dog saliva off of them. You can minimize exposure to airborne dog allergens by taking the following steps as a course of management for kids and dog allergies.

• Spay or neuter your dog—hormones impact allergen production in dogs
• Limit the dog’s area of the house and keep dogs out of children’s bedrooms if they are allergic
• Use encasing dust covers on mattresses and upholstered furniture
• Wash child bedding frequently in hot water
• Let your dog spend as much time as possible outdoors
• Bathe the dog every week
• Brush dog 1-3 times per week
• Use an allergen-reducing pet grooming product, such as an emollient that helps clean away pet allergens trapped in the dog and its fur
• Wipe the dog down on non-bath days with a wet cloth
• Vacuum the house daily using a HEPA filtered vacuum cleaner
• Use household air cleaners/filters
• Steam clean furniture and carpets
• Remove wall-to-wall carpeting and replace with hard flooring
• Keep dogs off furniture and never allow them to sleep on your child’s bed
• Replace filters in heating, cooling, and air conditioning units regularly
• Have child wash hands and face after playing with the dog, and change clothing when practical

That ‘Hot’ New Granite Countertop Might Be Just That!

The EPA has recently begun receiving an increasing number of reports form homeowners and inspectors about granite countertops that emanate levels of radiation far above the amounts considered to be safe.

It’s always been known that granite gives off a small amount of radiation, but it was always thought to be insignificant in comparison with the natural background radiation on the planet. However, scientist at Rice University are currently conducting tests on granite obtained from nearby commercial sources, and all emit an amount of radiation that’s higher than background levels, and a few were giving off over a hundred times background.

So if you’re sold on granite and are also health-conscious, you should probably have your next countertop tested before it’s installed. Contact the American Association of Radon Scientist and Technologists. Their website is at aarst.org.
